So, I have a publisher currently checking out my latest WIP, Kiss Me Dead. I'm excited about this novel, which is a slight department from my Last Moon Rising series. Still YA, it's more of a paranormal romance than straight out fantasy.
The funny thing is, I've had 3 publishers request full MS of this one, and ultimately all 3 rejected it. With what I was suspecting might be a rejection trend, I decided it was time to re-evaluate the MS as a whole. I had recently changed the ending to make it very dark (so dark that I killed of a main character!). Maybe not to cool with a paranormal romance, eh?
So, I could either tout is a a dark fantasy, or change the ending. For now, I changed the ending, thinking that maybe some audiences aren't ready to get real dark these days.
We'll see what happens! If it gets picked up, I know I made the right choice.
