Research. It's a drag, man!
My WIP, with a working title of The Dark Well, centers around druidism. While some research is fun, there's not a lot known about druidism, because the druids didn't write shit down. They had bards who learned hundreds of tales to verbally pass down their history. Kind of sucks if, you know, you want to learn all there is about druidism!
Anyhoo, I did what research I could, but there is a bright side. I can use my imagination to fill in holes and gaps of what literally isn't known. It is fiction, right?
So, research done, I moved on to my world building.
It's a drag, man!
I don't know if I got hit with writer's block, or if my job is sucking me dry, but I wrote one line ... ONE line ... for 7 days. I opened up my laptop, wrote my line, and then stared at it for a few hours. I allowed other things to distract me on that first day. The 2nd day I opened my laptop and stared at that one line, but only lasted about an hour before I let life distract me. The 3rd day? I lasted about 10 minutes...this time I was on the bus, so I just shut the laptop and pulled out a book and read instead. I didn't even bother opening my laptop for the next 4 days. What was the point?
My son made me a necklace and earrings out of a stone that's supposed to help creativity. The next day I put on my creativity bling ... and wrote 2 pages of world building. Whether the shit works or I just *thought* it would work, doesn't matter. I'm rolling again!
Just made a big pot of coffee, and going back to world building. Scenes are already clamoring inside my head to be written down. My characters are older than I've ever written, and I'm going for a sensual spin. I can't wait to write it!
