Kiss Me Dead is officially with the editor. I'm so excited to start this new journey with Soul Mate Publishing! However, because we're putting this book in the new adult market (instead of young adult), I thought I needed to raise the ages of my main characters. I pitched that to the editor, and she's good to go...except she wants me to make the changes *before* she gets deep into the editing process.

It's fall, my favorite time of year. I enjoy watching the leaves change, the tingle of cold in the air, the smell of wood smoke as people fire up their stoves and fireplaces. There's something invigorating about this time of year...there's beauty in death, which seems like an odd thing to say.
I'm feeling invigorated about writing, too. I've been procrastinating on the 4th and final book of the Last Moon Rising series. Maybe I don't want to see it end, don't want to see it die like the falling leaves around me. Maybe it's because I lost all my outlines and notes in the Great Computer Catastrophie of 2008. Whatever the reason, I'm busy writing. Again. Yes!!! So, it's Labor Day weekend here in the States, and is the unofficial end of summer. This past month has been especially busy for me!
Between carting the kids off to new schools, and being inundated at work with a gargantuan project (which has taken over my LIFE), I have been busy on the writing front as well. Good busy. On the Last Moon Rising front: 1. I saw the first draft of my new Strong Blood cover...just going through some final changes there. 2. I'm pecking away at the 3rd installment, Water Over Blood, which I *plan* on releasing in September...just doing the final edits and read-through and waiting for my cover. I'm pleased as punch on my new covers, by the way. 3. And, I'm writing the last installment, Blood Tied. For some reason, the writing is going slow. It could be because I lost all of my notes and outlines in the Great Computer Frying of 2009. It could be because I lost all my maps and family trees related to the characters (I can't blame that one on the computer...I just plain ole misplaced them in my wonderful filing system). Or it could be because I'm finally typing up this series after starting that first draft 16 years ago. It's been a lifetime! But as much as I say I'm ready to wrap it up and move on to other projects...am I? I say, I'll miss Tuggin especially. As the author, can I admit to having a favorite? In that case, ignore what I just wrote. :) And in other news... I have signed a contract with Soul Mate Publishing to publish Kiss Me Dead! I'm super excited and tweaked! It will be on their New Adult listing, a paranormal romance. More information on that process to come. So, today is a big day. My daughter starts high school. My son starts college. And I'm getting old.
My daughter's nervous. She's shy and listens to the first day of high school horror stories with way too much attention. She's a funny, talented, bright girl, and while she doesn't get along with 'the popular kids' so much, I think she'll do fine. My son? Gregarious, funny, out-spoken. He's excited to start college. He has a 'college' personality and he'll be happy as pig in mud. So, my daughter and I and her best friend had our annual back to school beach day yesterday. It's fun and relaxing and they get that one last care-free fling in before the rigors of school start. I splurged and had a chocolate milk shake! Oh yum. It was so good. And you know what else? Just saw the first draft of my new cover for Strong Blood. It's gonna be cool! When the covers are done, you'll definitely be able to see the progression of the Last Moon Rising series through the covers. My cover designer, Tara Anand, is doing a wonderful job! It's been a busy summer, to be sure! I'm waiting for the new cover for Strong Blood, and polishing the 3rd installment, Water Over Blood. The release of #3 is delayed a bit as I wait for my covers, but there's always more to do!
I've been writing away on the 4th and last installment of the Last Moon Series. The writing's been going in fits and starts...there's always so much else to do. Cassie's getting ready to enter high school, and WayJ is getting ready for college. There have been graduation parties and birthdays and celebrations and work and too many hot days where the only thing you want to do is melt. My netbook died, and I lost much of what I wrote for Last Moon #4, and I lost all of my original notes in the great computer crash of 2008...but in the end that turned out to be ok, because I've decided the original concept of LM#4 wasn't going to work any longer. My characters have taken on a life of their own throughout the series, and the original ending to the series has been put to rest. The ending may be a tad bit happier than what I originally intended! |
